Roundup

It’s been some days since I lasted posted some “major content”, so now that I’ve got some spare time, I thought I should do a roundup of things:

  • I decided that two exams covering 7 different academics is just too much, so I signed off one exam yesterday (the one covering 2 academics, as I’m already on a good way to master the one with 5)
  • Today parts of my new car audio system arrived, namely the new amplifier (as the old one gave up on me over a week ago) and a new subwoofer (Sinus Live DB 250) to get some nicer bass-sound. I spent 1.5h today to mount everything properly and pass some new lines. Sure enough the tweeters got a nasty whistle now…so I will have to pass the new RCA (“Cinch”) cables, I just ordered, next week…then everything should be   (hopefully)…
  • NBA News: So the Philadelphia 76ers acquired All-Start forward Chris Webber – cool, maybe that’ll result in an more interesting eastern conference (Philly: A.I. + C-Webb, Miami: Shaq + Flash). Apart from this trade there were numerous others right before the trade deadline – Boston got Antoine back, Dallas landed Keith van Horn, Golden State got Baron Davis…crazy stuff going on, you can read all the transactions here
  • Personal sports: After the last match was canceled due to snow, it seems that the upcoming match on sunday is canceled, too. There’s just too much snow on the pitch (we trained on about 20cm of snow on wednesday which wasn’t all that much fun). This isn’t all that good as we’re all hot to get the season started again, then again it’s a free sunday, so why do I complain ;-)
  • International Football: All in all it’s not looking all too good for german teams in both UEFA Champions League and UEFA Cup. CL: Bayern 3-1 Arsenal  , Leverkusen 1-3 Liverpool  , Bremen 0-3 Lyon   . UEFA Cup: Aachen, Schalke and VfB Stuttgart all out
  • Apple launched the new iPod Mini…didn’t have the chance to have a look at it, but will do so asap…

That’s it for now. Hopefully I’ll have more time to post over the next few weeks as I’ve got a little bit less stress now that I canceled one exam…

So long…have a great weekend!

NBA Allstar Game 2005

Not a bad game so far, although I’m missing the whole “Showtime” basketball a little bit. More layups, three-pointers and turnovers (West already more than 20) than nice dunk/alley-oops. I don’t know if it’s the thin air up in mile high city or what? The only real highlight so far: Vince “Air Canada”/”Vincanity” Carter’s pass to himself of the glass…

On another note: 04:48am…I guess I’m going to get some sleep now as I’m really tired and this game isn’t keeping me on the edge of my seat at all (this is really the first time I’m not watching an NBA allstar game till the end)…so, I’ll call it a “night” – Go Dirk! Go West :-)

Update: So the East won it 125-115 and Iverson got the MVP award…so I guess my decision to get at least some sleep was right

Firefox downloaded 25 million times

Wow, now that’s a nice number! I guess more and more people are at least giving it a try as there (almost) nothing but praise for it found around the net. In celebration of that the Mozilla Store is offering 25% rebate on Firefox T-Shirts, polos, plush-toys and hats until 11:59 PM EST on Thursday, February 17. So get yours. (More infos can be found here).

No wonder that Microsoft sees the need to release IE 7 earlier than planned

WordPress 1.5 Strayhorn

The new version 1.5 of WordPress is out, get it here.

But be advised – there might be a lot of work to it (if you’ve customized a lot of stuff!).

My To-Do-List:

  • Reinstall AntiSpam-Solution – Done
  • Get site to work at all – Done cheers Aaron
  • Get Gravatars to work again properly – Done
  • Update smilies – Done
  • Get different versions to work again – WAP+Mobile
  • Get about, advertise and contact working again… – Done, you gotta love the new pages function
  • Get WP-Grins again…
  • add WP-Stats again…

Sidenote: The only thing that bothers me is that they included the whole no-follow thing and there’s no way to turn it off (yet) – Fixed thanks to John  !

FC Marbach II 2-2 TSV Affalterbach II

The last friendly match before the restart of the season was a good one, although the weather really played it’s tricks on us (it started snowing just before the start of the match and shortly after that the whole field was covered with snow).

Best thing: I came into the match at the end (around the 80th minute?!) and scored the 2-2

Lack of updates

I guess you already noticed that I didn’t post all that much recently. That’s due to the fact that I’ve got exams on the horizon (March 16th = Wissensverarbeitung (Knowledge Processing) and Verteilte Systeme (Distributed Systems); March 18th = Mensch-Rechner-Interaktion I+II, Arbeitswissenschaft, Technologiemanagement, Service Engineering) – as you see I’ve got to prepare myself for 7 concurrent subjects with scripts ranging from 200 to 600 pages  .

That’s why I try to focus on that and cut my online time – hence the lack of updates…

(NFL) Philadelphia 7-7 New England

Super bowl half time. Boy what an intesive first half. I think Philadelphia should have score at least once more, but hey…we’ve got another half to go…and with the 7-7 at half time my prediction of 14-10 still stands

Now it’s time to get something to eat, relax a little and watch the halftime show

(NFL) Super Bowl Sunday

So it’s time…for some it might be the most important sunday of the year, for me it’s just Superbowl Sunday. Pregame coverage will start at 10:30pm and the game itself will start at 0:30am (my timezone is GMT+1).

I’m really looking forward and I guess it’ll be a close game. My pick? I think it’s going to be hard to stop the Patriots as they played nearly flawless for weeks, but I’m still going with Philadelphia (someone needs to root for the underdogs!)…so my prediction is: Philadelphia 14-10 New England

Carnival and all

I’m not a big fan of carnival, although it’s a quite happy time with everybody having a good time (getting drunk) and all. Nontheless I went out to Ludwigsburg (the next biggest city around) to have a little fun – not particularly carnival fun, but pub fun (if there’s something like pub fun at all  ).

So we went out to Club 69 which had a Coyote Ugly party tonight (for all who are unfamiliar with the hollywood movie see here). The concept is quite easy to understand: you’ve got a pub and you’ve got one or more fine girls who are acting as go-go-girls dancing on the bar in hot clothes…then those girl(s) hand out free drinks. After having a good time there we decided it was time to move on, so we went to Tatort which is a legendary cocktail bar around here. After having ourselves some nice drinks we decided that it was time to get home…and that’s where the “problems” started. Did you ever try to get a taxi at carnival time?

So we had to walk quite a while to get to the train station where all the (remaining) taxis are waiting for customers (and believe me it’s cold out here)…but we made it and now I’m home safe without having to risk my driver’s license – I always encourage ppl to get a taxi instead of drinking & driving (mostly due to common sense and the fact that one of my best mates was killed in a car accident almost three years ago (he couldn’t do anything about it, a drunk driver hit him)).

Bottom Line:

  • It’s 3:27am and I had a good time
  • Some different drinks…around 20€
  • Paying for a taxi (sharing it with 3 mates)…around 8€
  • Being home safe…priceless

That said, it’s time to get some sleep as I’ve got to get up in some hours to play a friendly match (FCM II – GSV Pleidelsheim II)…Good night
