G’Day World Sponsorship Auction on ebay

Update: Hehe, they’re already mentioning me even though the auction isn’t even closed yet…yes, I’m known as handychef at ebay ;-)
(check out Podcast 6)
end update

I don’t know if you’re a podcast fan or not, but one of the best podcasters around (G’Day World’s Cameron Reilly and Mick Stanic) are auctioning the sponsorship of their upcoming podcasts up on ebay (see the auction) - and believe it or not, I’m still the leading bidder

I don’t know if there’s noone else interested or if they’re all lined up to “snipe” at the end of the auction - I guess I’ll find out sooner or later (auction ends Feb-04-05 04:10:41 PST)…

Sorry, I don’t get it. Maybe it’s too late or maybe I’m just too stupid, but what’s the auction all about? IOW WTH are you bidding for?

Well, podcasting is like a radio show, although it’s prerecorder and published on a website (normally) as an mp3-file (see Podcasting definition)…G’Day World is a podcast by two australian folks which is quite popular around the blogosphere due to the fact that they recently did some podcasts with a-list bloggers (Robert Scoble, Jeremy Wright, etc)…

So, what’s up for auction is a sponsorship of some of their upcoming podcasts - so basically you are being mentioned as sponsor of their podcast and that’s it…interesting to some people, totally useless to otheres…decide for yourself… ;-)

Hehe, that’s what I figured out myself, but I thought that couldn’t be the whole deal! It seams that I was wrong! Are you sure you want to pay 100 bucks for just being mentioned? :|

I was a little bit confused when i read the post…
After looking up the Wikipedia definition i’m not sure i would pay 150 AU bucks for sponsoring a cast (just like Rico) :|

Well, it’s not all about the being mentioned…it’s about supporting a good idea…and getting your message across to who knows how many people…so basically yes… ;-)

Oh, it seems that there is at least one ebay newbie who is interested and pushes the price a little bit… :-(

The winning bidder won’t just be “mentioned” - the winner of the auction will get us to SELL their product/service on our show. We get 6000+ people downloading our shows and many of them are leading people in the technology and media business around the world. I’d say $100 (or even $5000) is a pretty sweet deal to get your product’s name in front of 6000 of the world’s top bloggers and press. Imagine this - what if just one of the A-list bloggers who listens to our show checks out your product and writes about it? What if that blogger is read by Business Week journalists who then write about your product? This is how it works now folks. Oh and Business Week are interviewing us on Friday… what’s it worth to you to have me speak about your product?

Indeed Cameron, although I think my limit has been met, we’ll see, maybe I’ll chip in another bid…anyway: good luck and hopefully you’ll get a decent price in the end - 200 odd AU$ atm won’t get you none of the things you wanted to spend the money on (flight, … :-(
